The Bipolar Religion was created from childhood experiences and memories. As military dependants our family followed my father whereever he was stationed. One station was Keflavik, Iceland. There, in the artic summer, such recollections as having to put aluminum foil over the windows to produce darkness for sleeping conditions or going fishing at 2:00 AM in the daylight instilled in me an outlook on the world that still leaves me in awed wonder. Conversely, in the winter darkness, sledding down hills in midafternoon when only the darkest of blues indicated that the sun was below the horizon and would not be showing itself is a lifestyle in itself. The Bipolar Religion is a celebration of our world's diverse conditions.

Having read to the point that I have an understanding of our world's society's histories I have come to a conclusion that most people are hopelessly provincial. It is sad because life is so rich; it is understandable because great contrast brings great struggle.

The Bipolar Religion is an effort to, instead of entreating people to be non-provincial in their world view, to take everything one step farther. To imagine spending your life in a majority of light or night.

The Bipolar Religion will strive to educate the disciplines of geography and the world through comedy. Moreover, what more fun can anybody have but to play with their pole!

Apply for membership in the Bipolar Religion. Of course you have to like a whole lot of it. The good thing about it is that it can be either light or dark. Note: We do not discriminate against equatorial people. We just think your decision to live in increments of twelve hour days and twelve hour night is really weird. Weirdos!

Membership has reached a new high in the Bipolar Religion. The exciting thing is most of them profess to be pole worshippers. Bless their hearts.

For those people who suffer from being bipolar we know now that your bipolarness in the long run has substance. So rather than seek medical treatment for being Bipolar, refine your disease, macerate in it, go lock yourself in the closet and practice it.

Russia to Claim North Pole Russia is planting their flag under the sea at the North Pole today (8/4/2007). The plan to place the Russian flag underneath the ice and directly on the sea bed is an effort to ensure that the world is aware of Russia's claim on the North Pole as part of the country's Exclusive Economic Zone. Two small submarines will dive from a surface research ship to plant the flag. A member of Russia's parliament will be on board one of the subs. This is the first I've heard of underwater flag planting and it will be interesting to see if Russia's claim is acknowledged through this act. Canada and Denmark are also very interested in maintaining claims to the Arctic. The New York Times has more.
